SALISBURY — A Salisbury man was charged with drunken driving while riding an ATV on Statesville Boulevard.
George Michael Shuler, 41, of 211 Scotland Lane, was driving the all-terrain vehicle headed towards Ashbrook Road near the entrance of the Westcliffe subdivision on the sidewalk when a police officer pulled him over.
Salisbury Police officer R.S. Ruble informed Shuler he could not ride his ATV on the sidewalk or the roadway. The officer noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from Shuler.
“His eyes were glossy and his speech was slurred,” a report said.
He told the officer he’d just returned from Fuel Depot Bar and Grill on Statesville Boulevard where he’d had “a few shots.”
The officer said Shuler showed signs of impairment during sobriety tests. He was arrested for driving while impaired and taken to the police station, where he refused a breath test.
