SALISBURY — A Spencer man, who police say entered a Salisbury garage and took a string trimmer, was arrested minutes after the incident as officers in the area found him bicycling down the street with the trimmer propped over his handlebars, Salisbury Police reported today.
Ronald Lee Lotharp, 51, of 1515 S. Salisbury Ave., Spencer, was charged with felony breaking and entering, felony larceny after breaking and entering and felony possession of stolen goods. He was given a $2,500 secured bond.
According to the report, Lotharp was seen entering the garage of a home on North Merritt Avenue Tuesday afternoon, and left, string trimmer in hand, on his bicycle.
The neighbor who witnessed the theft called 911, which sent out an alert, and a deputy with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office spotted Lotharp cycling down the street near North Craige and West Cemetery streets.
Lotharp was identified by the caller as the man who had taken the string trimmer, and the trimmer was returned to its owner.
