A 38-year-old Cabarrus County man who works as a teacher’s assistant is being held under $300,000 bond after being charged with a sexual offense involving a minor.
The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office charged James Edward Meskill of 11073 Dry Stone Drive in Cabarrus County with first degree sexual exploitation of a minor and first degree sexual offense.
On Tuesday, the sheriff’s office was notified by Charlotte Mecklenburg Police that a teacher at J.H. Gunn Elementary School had borrowed a videocamera from Meskill. The teacher became concerned the camera had child pornography on it.
The sheriff’s office, Charlotte Mecklenburg School Police and the State Bureau of Investigation worked Wednesday to determine if the camcorder contained images involving sexual violations of a minor. The victim was not a student at Meskill’s school, which is on Harrisburg Road in Charlotte.
“Bringing these issues to light removes offenders from probabilities of preying on other victims,” Cabarrus Sheriff Brad Riley said in a release. Meskill is being held in the Cabarrus County Jail.
