West Rowan’s record-setting tailback K.P. Parks was named NPC Offensive Player of the Year in balloting by league coaches that was released after Saturday’s 3A championship game.
Parks had 407 carries for 3,794 yards and 59 TDs this season.
West senior nose guard Eli Goodson (35 tackles for loss, eight sacks, 37 quarterback hurries) was named NPC Defensive Player of the Year.
Joining Parks and Goodson on the All-NPC team from West were receiver Jon Crucitti, QB B.J. Sherrill, guard Timmy Pangburn, defensive end Chris Smith, safety Trey Mashore, cornerback Domonique Noble, tight end Patrick Hampton, offensive tackle Rodney Cline, defensive tackle Mackel Gaither and defensive end Emmanuel Gbunblee
Carson is represented by tailback Shaun Warren, receiver Cody Clanton, O-lineman Colton Ballard, defensive end Jacorian Brown and safety Jenson Harden.
South Rowan’s All-NPC players are linebacker Cadarreus Mason, QB Blake Houston, running backs Thomas Lowe and D’Andre Harris, DBs Quan Glaspy and Mark McDaniel and defensive lineman Justin Hall.East Rowan is represented by QB Jamey Blalock, linebacker Sam Edmonds, O-lineman Greysen Gordy, linebacker Tyler Bumgarner, DB/receiver Preston Troutman, defensive lineman Jeffrey Haltom and kicker Andrew May.
Crucitti shared Player of the Year honors for special teams. May was named NPC Kicker of the Year.
No word has been received yet on NPC Coach of the Year honors.
n All-NPC soccer
Carson’s Anthony Melton, Isiah Guerrero and Carlos Soto; East Rowan’s Jan Garus and Andrew May; South Rowan’s Blake Bettis and Lito Rivera; and West Rowan’s Bradys Zuringa were named to the All-NPC boys soccer team.
n All-NPC volleyball
Carson’s Taylor Whitley, Breckin Settlemyer and Sarah Marshall; South Rowan’s Kayla Morrow; and East Rowan’s Carsen Byrd were named to the All-NPC volleyball team.
Carson’s Kelan Rogers was named NPC Coach of the Year for leading the Cougars to an 8-4 league mark and a state playoff berth.
n All-NPC girls tennis
East Rowan’s Brittany Honeycutt, Devan Corpening,Megan Bullins, Kayela Wilson and Katie Cassady were named to the All-NPC girls tennis team, along with Carson’s Kelly Dulkoski and Carol Brown and West Rowan’s Madison Rusher.
East’s Laurie Wyrick was named NPC Coach of the Year. East went 11-1 in the league and tied Statesville for first place.
n All-YVC football
North Rowan defensive linemen Javon Hargrave and Keith Reid, linebacker Vince Shropshire and DB Kornell Cook were named to the All-YVC football team. North’s Garland Archie was Honorable Mention on both sides of the ball. Also Honorable Mention was receiver Pierre Givens.
North coach Tasker Fleming was runner-up to Albemarle’s Baxter Morris for Coach of the Year honors.
n College women’s hoops
Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore Cameron Sealey scored 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as the 22nd-ranked Bears held off a second-half rally to defeat Pfeiffer 61-54 in women’s basketball on Saturday.
Brittany Cox scored 13 points for Pfeiffer (2-4).
n Meredith’s Brittany Cornelius (East Rowan) had 12 points, nine rebounds and four assists on Saturday in an 88-62 loss against Christopher Newport.
n College men’s hoops
Rio Grande’s Doug Campbell (Salisbury) scored 17 points, 14 in the second half, in Saturday’s 72-70 loss to Shawnee State.
