Stolen backhoe leaves a mess
Staff report
A John Deere backhoe on the U.S. 70 road construction site proved too much of a temptation.
One or more people opted to take the backhoe, owned by Culp Brothers Construction, for something of a joy ride.
Someone took the backhoe off the construction site, leaving a path of damaged gates, wrecked street signs and damaged asphalt.
Damage totalled around $3,000.
The incident occurred between 6 p.m. Saturday and 7:30 Sunday morning.
The backhoe, valued at $50,000, was abandoned at 417 Glenn Faust Road, Cleveland.
Capt. John Sifford said other equipment at the construction site was moved, but not taken off the construction site.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 704-216-8700.
