The prep girls hoops roundup …
CHINA GROVE ó More history for the Carson girls.
The Cougars (2-3) outscored West Davidson by a whopping 30-0 in the second quarter and ripped the Green Dragons 69-26 for the first two-game winning streak in the school’s four- year history.
Leading the way was Chloe Monroe, who scored 13 of her game-high 15 in the first half. She hit three 3s in the first quarter.
“We came out and shot the ball really well,” coach Brooke Misenheimer said. “In the first four games, we hadn’t shot well, but we were at 50 percent for the half.”
All 11 Cougars played and all scored. It was 48-8 at halftime. Monroe was the spark.
“She was really looking for her shot,” Misenheimer said.
Eight different players scored at least five points in what Misenheimer called a great team victory.
“This is the first time we’ve had a really big win,” she said. “They deserved it. A lot of people contributed. This will build confidence.”
Kaylene Livengood also hit double figures with 10, while sister Maegan chipped in with eight.

CONCORD ó South Rowan’s girls basketball team found its legs in the second quarter and sprinted past Central Cabarrus 57-44 Friday night.
Asia Caple led the Raiders (2-3) by scoring 12 points for the second straight night.
And it was Thursday night’s loss to A.L. Brown that South had to recuperate from. That had something to do with a 14-12 deficit after one quarter.
“We pressed the whole second half against Kannapolis,” Raider coach Jarrod Smith said.
But led by Caple, who dished out six assists, the Raiders kicked it into high gear. They led 29-23 at halftime and upped the lead to 45-31 after three. The biggest lead was 22.
“Asia’s a sophomore who we brought up to varsity,” Smith said. “She’s gotten better every game she’s played.”
Lauren Miller added 10 points for South and Nicole Barringer nine. Kayla Morrow had eight points and 12 rebounds.
Miller matched Caple with six assists.
South had a well-rounded game with 16 assists and 17 steals.
“That’s what I’m most proud of,” Smith said.

SPENCER ó Teaunna Cuthbertson scored 15 points and Symphony Roberts added 11 as North Rowan remained undefeated in the Yadkin Valley Conference with a 49-32 win against South Davidson.
North (3-1, 2-0) led only 29-27 going into the last quarter but broke things open with pressure defense.
Coach Tony Hillian was happy with only 12 turnovers and good shot selection by the Cavs. He was also happy with the play of Sabrina Vann, who scored a career-high nine.
“Vann did a good job inside with her ability to get rebounds and block out,” Hillian said. “This feels pretty good knowing we got off to a good start to the season.”
