Kendall Ponds
Air Force Airman Kendall Ponds has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.
In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
He is the son of Sy and Jo Ponds of Salisbury.
Ponds is a 2006 graduate of East Rowan High School.
Christy L. Nicholson
Army Spec. Christy L. Nicholson has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.
Nicholson is the daughter of Dwight Nicholson of China Grove.
She graduated in 1997 from South Rowan High School and received a bachelor’s degree in 2004 from Lee University, Cleveland, Tenn.
Holland J. Bost
Second Class Petty Officer Holland J. Bost has been awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for the “superior performance of his duties while serving as forward bomb assembly magazine supervisor on the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN71) from March 2003 to March 2008.”
The award in part reads that, “His superior leadership and meticulous attention to detail led to the safe and expeditious handling, breakout, assembly, refiguration and disassembly of 290 precision guided munitions and 180,000 pounds of ordinance during two combat deployments. Additionally, his outstanding technical expertise directly resulted in the refurbishment of 35 weapons magazines, garnering extraordinary praise for material condition from ordinance safety inspections teams.”
Petty Officer Bost is serving his second tour of duty with the United States Navy and is stationed at NAS Oceana, Va. He was a 2002 graduate of East Rowan High School, and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dana Bost of Salisbury, and Bonnie and Dusty Holder of Rockwell.
Jason Brantley
Air Force Airman Jason B. Brantley II has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.
In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Brantley is a 2003 graduate of East Rowan High School.
Jason Ciscel
Airman First Class Jason Ciscel recently graduated second in his class from a 17-week Aircraft Electrician Technical School at Sheppard AFB, Wichita Falls, Texas.
After visiting Salisbury, he will be assigned to Aviano AB, Italy where he will be working on F-16 Fighter Planes.
He is the son of Debbie Ciscel and Tim and Anita Ciscel, all of Salisbury.
