CONCORD ó A man impersonating a police officer stopped and attempted to rob another motorist near downtown Concord Thursday night.
When the robbery victim said he didnít have cash or an automatic teller machine card, the robber assaulted the man and drove away, according to the Cabarrus County Sheriffís Office.
In a press release, the Sheriffís Office described the suspect as a black man, about 30 years old, 6 feet 2 inches tall and about 190 pounds. He was wearing a red baseball cap, long-sleeved black shirt and black pants ó in addition to the ěsilver-colored, shield-shaped badge on his belt.î
The victim also told deputies the first letter of the suspectís N.C. license plate is K.
The robbery occurred about 8:15 p.m. Thursday as the victim drove away from downtown Concord on Old Charlotte Road.

The victim noticed ěan older model white Ford Crown Victoria with large wheelsî following his car, and after he crossed N.C. 49, the victim saw a circular blue light activate on the dash of the car following him.
The victim stopped his vehicle on Old Charlotte Road near Rocky River Road. The white Ford also stopped, and the driver approached with the police-like badge on his belt. The other driver first asked for the victimís vehicle registration and ěthen pointed a large black semiautomatic handgun at him and demand money and his ATM card,î according to the Sheriffís Office.
ěThe victim stated that he didnít have those items and was assaulted by the robber.î
The suspect then drove away, toward N.C. 49.
