KANNAPOLIS ó Thanks to an anonymous tip, police have charged a man and woman in the March robbery of First Charter Bank on Shiloh Church Road.
Charged with common law robbery are Anita Gale McAlpine, 41, of 5305 Maringo Road, Charlotte, and Keith Darnell Caldwell, 44, formerly of 3836 Rock Hill Church Road, Concord.
Caldwell was already serving time in state prison on charges of felony possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and felony probation violation. He was arrested March 5 and went to prison April 21.
The bank robbery occurred March 17 at the First Charter branch at 2001 Shiloh Church Road. When officers responded to an “alarm call” from the bank, they learned that a male suspect was already gone.
The suspect had entered the bank and demanded money from a teller, although he never displayed a weapon. The bank employee complied with the suspect’s demand, and the man left with an undisclosed amount of money.
He was last seen walking west on Davidson Highway.
No one was injured during the robbery.
This month, a tipster told investigators McAlpine was the getaway driver. Officers arrested her Friday on an outstanding warrant for probation violation, and after interviewing McAlpine, investigators determined they had probable cause to charge her with common law robbery in the bank robbery.
Investigators also obtained a warrant for Caldwell. He will be served with the robbery warrant in prison at a later date.
McAlpine is in the Cabarrus County Jail under $30,000 bond.
