ENOCHVILLE ó Five fire departments were unable to save a single-story house on Spring Garden Avenue early today.
Billy and Mary Barnhardt of 505 Spring Garden Ave., Kannapolis, lost everything in the 4:40 a.m. fire.
The Barnhardts and other family members had left Monday for a beach vacation. They returned today to find their home destroyed.
A neighbor spotted the flames and called 911.
The fire had taken control of more than 75 percent of the house when Enochville firefighters arrived.
Landis, Kannapolis, Atwell, China Grove and the Rowan Rescue Squad responded.
