College basketball: Catawba swept at Lenoir-Rhyne

Catawba’s men’s basketball team ran into a steamroller on Wednesday night and lost to Lenoir-Rhyne 95-77 in Hickory.
Lenoir-Rhyne shot 60.3 percent from the floor, went 8-for-12 on 3-pointers and won the battle on the glass.
D.J. Blackmon scored 28 points to pace the Bears (2-4) in the SAC opener for both teams. Marcus Hodges added 15 points.
Rob Fields and Antonio Houston scored 21 points each for Catawba (4-3). Houston was 4-for-7 on 3s and had nine rebounds. Fields shot 8-for-10 from the floor.

n Catawba womenCatawba’s women’s basketball team fell behind by 20 points at halftime and lost at Lenoir-Rhyne 87-66 on Wednesday.
Dana Hicks posted her fifth straight double-double to pace Catawba (3-3) in the SAC opener for both teams. She had 23 points on 8-for-14 shooting and added 12 rebounds.
Nisha Long scored 12 points, while Kisha Long had 10.
Brittany Mitch led the 23rd-ranked Bears with 21 points, nine rebounds and six assists. L-R (4-1) broke the game open with a spree late in the first half.
The Bears outscored Catawba 27-9 from the 3-point line.
