Third suspect sought in attempted murder

CHINA GROVE ó Police are seeking a third suspect in the severe beating and shooting of a Kannapolis man on June 19.
Police have drawn warrants for Averi Tyrell Barnes, 18, of Kirk Street, for the attempted first-degree murder of Dewthey Walker.
Officer D.P. Walther said Walker was hospitalized at Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast for 10 days or more for treatment of gunshot wounds and other injuries from the beating.
Walther said police responded to a report of gunshots in the Westside community shortly after midnight on June 19.
They found Walker beside the street. Witnesses said Walker was having some type of domestic argument or fight with a woman when three men intervened.
The woman was not injured.
Police have charged DeJuan Adkins, 23, of 709 Harry St., and Michael Angelo Bost, 23, of 646 Harry St., with attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting bodily harm.
Walther said Adkins was a nephew of the woman involved in the dispute.
According to the warrants, Adkins and Bost used their hands and feet in the assault.
Police say Barnes was the shooter.
