Thieves help themselves to copper wire

Copper wire thieves struck over the weekend at at quarry on Artz Road.
Rowan Granite Quarries, 3025 Artz Road, reported a break-in between Friday and Monday.
Among the items taken was an estimated $1,500 worth of copper wire. Other items taken included a digital DVR recorder and tools.
The total value of items taken or damage was put at $2,050.
Other Rowan County Sheriff’s Office investigations or charges for Oct. 26:
– Donald Lee Miller, 1189 Haden Church Road, Linwood, reported the theft of his 1980 green/ cream Ford Econonline van. It was taken from 2038 U.S. 29 between Oct. 24 and Oct. 26.
– Alma Voncille Craig, 610 Pop Stirewalt Road, reported the theft of an air conditioning unit valued at $800. It was stolen between Oct. 18 and Oct. 26. The unit was taken from a residence at 125 Cliff Eagle Road.
– Robert Thomas Vanderburg, 27, 270 Wiles Road, Mooresville was charged with statutory rape and three counts of indecent liberties with a child.
Investigators said the parents of a minor girl contacted the Sheriff’s Office.
– Jonathan Paul Holshouser was charged with felony possession of stolen goods and resisting arrest.
