Opening night for the Rowan American Legion baseball team is a summer tradition for area sports fans.
It has always been a community effort. Athletic director Banks Barringer and his crew get Newman Park cleaned up, Harry Agner runs the concession stand, serving up delicious ó and famous ó Pinky’s hot dogs.
Hundreds of fans show up nightly to watch the best that high school baseball players have to offer.
Two radio stations, WSTP and WSAT, are on the air for the first of about 40-plus games.
It’s the best $5 investment of the summer.
