Authorities are investigating the death of a 2-month-old child who died at a local motel this weekend. The infant’s mother is charged with drug possession.
Salisbury Police Department officials say Latoyia Niccole Myers, 24, of 617 Linn Lane, called 911 shortly after 9 a.m. Saturday from the Happy Traveler Inn, 1420 E. Innes St.
Her 2-month-old son was not responsive. The infant was dead when emergency medical responders arrived.
Authorities found two plastic bags containing crack cocaine and marijuana on top of a refrigerator inside the motel room, a police report said.
Myers was in possession of 1.50 grams of crack cocaine and 1.60 grams of marijuana, police say.
Myers is charged with possession of a schedule II controlled substance and possession of a schedule VI controlled substance. The infant was taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Charlotte for an autopsy. Results were not available Monday.
Myers was released from the Rowan County Detention Center after posting $2,500 bond.
Her first court appearance is scheduled for today.
The Salisbury Police Department is continuing the investigation.
