Masked men burst into the home of a couple in the Atwell community Tuesday night, forcing them to open a safe and taking the contents.
The robbery occurred around 9 p.m. at the home of John Randall Deadmon and Sherry Deadmon, 220 Corriher Grange Road, Mooresville.
Capt. John Sifford of the Rowan Sheriff’s Office said John Deadmon had gone outside to get ice cream, apparently in a freezer in a nearby building.
Deadmon noticed three people at the gate to the driveway. Thinking he knew them, he walked toward the gate, but quickly realized he didn’t.
At that point Deadmon turned and ran toward the house. One of the men caught up with him and pushed him down.
The second man, wearing a Halloween mask of bones on the face, ran into the house along with a woman.
The man told Sherry Deadmon that he would “blow her head off” if she didn’t open the safe.
She opened the safe and the robbers took the contents.
Before they left, they also took John Deadmon’s wallet and cell phone. One of the robbers took the money from the wallet and tossed it back at Deadmon.
Sifford said the entire incident took only minutes. Neither of the Deadmons were injured.
The contents of the safe included more than $1,000 in cash, two pistols which were described as a .22 long nose and a .357 Smith & Wesson.
The three-some left the scene in a dark-colored pickup.
The men are described as black, one wearing the Halloween mask, one wearing a dark hoodie with a red bandanna covering his face.
The woman is described as white with shoulder length brown hair, weighing around 130 pounds.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office at 704-216-8700.
