LEXINGTON (AP) ó A company that makes wind energy products will lay off 110 employees from one of its North Carolina plants.
PPG Industries told 420 employees at its Lexington fiberglass plant on Friday and Monday that the cuts are the result of a decline in the wind energy market. The cuts will take effect June 30.
Company spokesman Jeremy Neuhart says the drop in demand for wind energy projects was “a little bit more severe” than expected.
The cuts come a week after 90 workers were laid off from the company’s Shelby fiberglass plant. PPG has put on hold its initial plans to invest $20 million to expand that facility and add 120 jobs over the next three years.
The Pittsburgh, Pa., company has 140 manufacturing facilities that operate in more than 60 countries.
