Kannapolis pedestrian critically injured

KANNAPOLIS ó Police say a driver intentionally struck a pedestrian this morning, and the victim is in critical condition.

Kannapolis Police received a 911 call at about 7:35 a.m. reporting that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian in the 1500 block of Pine Street. The responding officers located the victim lying beside the roadway. He was airlifted by helicopter to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte in critical condition.
The victimís name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The initial investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle, Berry Alton Cook Jr., 28,  of Kannapolis, intentionally hit the victim, who was standing well off the roadway, police said.  Cook is being charged with attempted murder and will be placed in the Cabarrus County Jail.
