KANNAPOLIS ó Gregory Wayne Powell has been charged by the Kannapolis Police Department with robbery and property damage at two sites in town.
On May 15, 2009, Kannapolis Police Investigators arrested Powell, of 1212 Laura Ave., in connection with the March 3, armed robbery of the Rushco No. 6 at 604 N. Cannon Blvd. and three separate property damage incidents at Razmataz Tattoos, 670 N. Cannon Blvd.
In the March 3, Rushco robbery, a clerk at the store described the suspect as a white male, wearing a baseball cap, brown jacket and blue jeans. Witnesses said he entered the store, showed a handgun and took an undisclosed amount of money. He left in a light-colored Chevrolet S-10.
On March 18, April 20, and April 22, reports of criminal property damage were filed by officials at Razmataz Tattoos at 670 N Cannon Blvd. Each time, they reported someone shot at the front of the business. On one instance, the business was occupied, but no one was injured.
After a lengthy investigation, Kannapolis investigators identified Powell as the person responsible for each of these incidents.
He has been charged with one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon; two counts of damage to real property and one count of shooting into occupied property. He was placed in the Cabarrus County Jail under a $10,000 secured bond.
