LEXINGTON ó The Davidson County Democratic Party will hold its annual convention on April 18, beginning at 10 a.m. in Court Room C of the Court House in Lexington.
Featured speaker will be Wayne Goodwin, commissioner of the N. C. Department of Insurance. Goodwin was elected in 2008 after serving as assistant insurance commissioner nearly four years.
Prior to that, he was a member of the N.C. House of Representatives for four terms, receiving the Leadership in Government Award by Common Cause and the A+ Legislator Award by the N.C. Association of Educators.
In addition to serving as insurance commissioner, Goodwin is the state fire marshal and chairs both Safe Kids North Carolina and the Arson Awareness Council.
“We are pleased to have a council of state member come to our convention this year,” said Randall Lanier, county party chair.
Election of county party officers will highlight this year’s convention. Other items of business include the selection of state party executive committee members and delegates to the 6th and 12th congressional district conventions on May 16. The group will also consider resolutions put forward by the precincts.
All Democrats registered in Davidson County are encouraged to attend. For more information, contact Randall Lanier at 336-250-3088.
