Concord man charged with first-degree murder
A Morganton man was shot and killed in Concord Monday and a suspect has been charged.
Mastin Fontane Shuford, 21, of 211 Burkemont Ave., Morganton, was killed and his passenger was wounded and taken to CMC-NorthEast.
Christopher Rashad Dooley, 16, of 1025 Gaither Place, Concord, was charged with one count of first-degree murder.
Shortly after 8 p.m. Monday, Concord Police responded to an accident at the intersection of Gaither Place and Davidson Highway in Concord. While en route to the crash, officers received a call that gunshots had been fired in the area of Gaither Place and Bellhaven. When officers arrived, they found the driver of the vehicle unresponsive. The driver and a passenger in the vehicle were transported to CMC-NorthEast.
The driver suffered at least one gunshot wound, and died at the hospital of his injuries. Officers are still investigating the possibility of a second person being involved in the shooting.
