ANAHEIM, Calif. ó For Demontez Stitt, sharing is the key to Clemson’s success.
Tanner Smith scored 17 points and Stitt had 16 points and five assists to lead No. 19 Clemson to an 87-79 victory over Long Beach State in the 76 Classic on Friday at the Anaheim Convention Center.
Andre Young added 13 points and Trevor Booker had 12 points and seven rebounds for the Tigers (5-1), who shot 57.6 percent and scored 20 points off turnovers.
No. 1 Kansas 112, Tennessee Tech 75
LAWRENCE, Kan. ó Cole Aldrich had 14 points and 10 rebounds, Tyshawn Taylor added 18 points and Kansas overwhelmed Tennessee Tech.
Kansas (5-0) took care of another overmatched opponent, building a 22-point halftime lead and shooting 61 percent to extend the nation’s longest home winning streak to 45 games. Xavier Henry had 15 points and Sherron Collins 12.
Florida 77, No. 2 Michigan St. 74
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. ó Erving Walker hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:56 left and Florida hung on to upset No. 2 Michigan State 77-74 in the Legends Classic.
Walker finished with 12 points to help the Gators (5-0).
The Spartans (4-1) missed their chance to give coach Tom Izzo a record 341 victories at the school.
No. 8 West Virginia 73, Texas A&M 66ANAHEIM, Calif.ó Da’Sean Butler scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half to lead No. 8 West Virginia over Texas A&M in the 76 Classic at the Anaheim Convention Center.
Butler added five rebounds and five assists for the Mountaineers (4-0).
No. 9 Tennessee 86, Coll of Charleston 69
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. ó Scotty Hopson scored 21 points and Tyler Smith added 18 to lead No. 9 Tennessee over College of Charleston.
Charleston (1-3) stayed close by going 10 for 17 from 3-point range, but Tennessee (5-1) went on a 9-0 run to take a 76-61 lead with just under 6 minutes left.
No. 10 Syracuse 85, Columbia 60
SYRACUSE, N.Y.ó Wes Johnson had a career-high 26 points, Arinze Onuaku added 12 points, and No. 10 Syracuse beat Columbia.
It was the 805th career win for Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim, seventh all-time in Division I and one more than Eddie Sutton.
Facing its second straight Ivy League opponent, Syracuse (6-0) struggled to pull away from the Lions (2-2).
Marquette 79, No. 15 Michigan 65
ORLANDO, Fla.ó Lazar Hayward scored 22 points and Jimmy Butler had 17 to lead Marquette past No. 15 Michigan at the Old Spice Classic.
Michigan (3-1) got 22 points from Manny Harris.
Northwestern 72, No. 23 Notre Dame 58
CHICAGO ó John Shurna scored a career-high 25 points and freshman Alex Marcotullio made a pair of key 3-pointers in the second half as Northwestern beat Notre Dame in the Chicago Invitational Challenge.
OTHERS
ATLANTA ó Freshmen Derrick Favors and Mfon Udofia each scored 16 points, and Georgia Tech withstood a scare for the second straight year from Mercer in an 85-74 win. Gani Lawal finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Yellow Jackets (4-1), who have won three straight.
Florida State 60, Alabama 51
ORLANDO, Fla. ó Chris Singleton scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds as Florida State beat Alabama 60-51 on Friday.
VCU 85, Nevada 76
RICHMOND, Va. ó Larry Sanders had 17 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks as Virginia Commonwealth held off Nevada.
Furman 72, UNC-Asheville 66
ASHEVILLE ó Jordan Miller scored 20 points to lead Furman to a 72-66 over North Carolina-Asheville. J.P. Primm had 20 for Asheville.
