nTime: 7:30 p.m.
nRecords: Statesville 2-5, 0-2 NPC; West Rowan 8-0, 3-0 NPC
nSeries: West leads 8-5
nLast meeting: West beat the Greyhounds twice in 2008, cruising 41-7 in the regular season and taking a competitive 27-14 contest in the second round of the playoffs.
nStreaks: West has won the last six meetings in the series and taken 38 of its last 39 NPC games. The Falcons have won 10 straight against Iredell opponents since a loss against West Iredell in 2007.
nLast time Statesville beat the Falcons: Hounds won 23-14 in 2003
nLast week: Statesville suffered a 31-27 loss against East Rowan; West demolished Carson 69-14
nNext week: Statesville is host to North Iredell; West is at East Rowan
nGame notes: The express train that is K.P. Parks rolled over 9,000 yards last week. He’s No. 2 in state history, and the chase begins now in earnest for the all-time state record of 10,241 yards set by Ragsdale’s Toney Baker from 2001-04.
Blockers for Parks include fullback Coleman Phifer, tight end Patrick Hampton and guard Charles Holloway.
East Rowan runs the ball well and hammered out 409 rushing yards against the Greyhounds last week.
West had 455 rushing yards in last week’s victory and averages 300-plus, so it doesn’t require rocket science to analyze what should happen tonight.
It’s almost unfair, but West can also throw it. Junior quarterback B.J. Sherrill leads the county with 1,041 passing yards, and senior Jon Crucitti leads county receivers with 36 catches for 676 yards and six scores.
West owns three shutouts and has held three other foes to nine points or fewer. รณ Mike London
