GREENVILLE ó East Carolina assistant coach Thomas “Rock” Roggeman is being treated for non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
Head coach Skip Holtz said Saturday during the team’s preseason media day that Roggeman was diagnosed in June and began treatment in July. The school said the treatment program includes chemotherapy that will continue into the fall, though Roggeman is expected to coach this season.
Roggeman joined Holtz’s staff when he arrived in Greenville in December 2004. He is coaching the Pirates’ defensive tackles for the third season.
The 46-year-old has also coached at Alabama State, Alabama A&M, Louisville, Eastern Michigan, UNLV and Murray State. He played linebacker and nose guard at Notre Dame.
