South’s Grant a top seed for state meet

South Rowan’s B.J. Grant, the top seed in the high jump, is one of 11 county athletes scheduled to compete today at the 3A state track meet in Greensboro.
Grant and Mooresville’s Germaine Leach both cleared 6 feet, 8 inches at last weekend’s West Regional, and Grant took first via the attempts-based tiebreaker. Four state entries, including A.L. Brown’s Billy Simiton, cleared 6-6 in the regional round.
Four East Rowan athletes ó Daishion Barger, Nathan Robbins, Keith Leonard and Evan Webb ó will take part in five events.
Robbins is seeded ninth in the shot put and 11th in the discus. Leonard and Webb are seeded fifth and sixth, respectively, in the pole vault. Barger could contend in both the 110 hurdles and 200 dash.
Artrele Louis, Jamill Lott, Dillon Robinson and Simiton make up A.L. Brown’s top-seeded 4×200 team and second-seeded 4×100 team. Louis is seeded second in the 100 behind Dudley’s Avery Griffin.
On the girls side, East’s Kasee Hepler (seventh, shot put) and West’s Desere Cross (fifth, discus) qualified in throwing events. West’s Amber Holloway is seeded sixth in the 100 hurdles, and she’s part of a 4×100 team with Nicole Barber, Kimberly Jenkins and Moriah Leach.
A.L. Brown’s Keonna Eaton is seeded third in the 100.
