Peterson returning to Appalachian State

BOONE ó Buzz Peterson has changed his mind and is returning for a second stint coaching Appalachian State.
The school announced on Wednesday that Peterson has accepted the job three weeks after initially turning it down. He’ll replace Houston Fancher, who was fired last month.
Peterson went 79-39 in four seasons at ASU from 1996-2000.
The Mountaineers went 13-18 last season. Their last NCAA tournament appearance came under Peterson in 2000.NORTH CAROLINA
RALEIGH ó State lawmakers and Gov. Beverly Perdue basked in the glow of the national championship won by UNC.
The Tar Heels and coach Roy Williams traveled to Raleigh for a celebration with the state’s General Assembly and Perdue. The team won the NCAA title three weeks ago by beating Michigan State.
The Senate and House held separate floor sessions and passed a resolution honoring the team. Perdue invited them to the Executive Mansion to recognize the Tar Heels’ accomplishments later in the day.

ROCK HILL, S.C. ó Winthrop coach Randy Peele said sophomore reserves Byron Faison and Marc-David Vil have decided to transfer to gain more playing time elsewhere.
