CINCINNATI ó Reliever Bobby Parnell (East Rowan) made his 2009 debut and pitched a scoreless sixth inning for the New York Mets in a 9-7 win against Cincinnati.
He took the mound with a 5-4 lead and struck out Edwin Encarnacion before getting Ramon Hernandez to ground out. Parnell issued back-to-back walks, then induced a groundout from Darnell McDonald.
The Reds scored twice in the seventh off Pedro Feliciano and made a final push against the Mets’ closing tandem. J.J. Putz gave up a sacrifice fly in the eighth, making the score 9-7.
The Reds loaded the bases with one out in the ninth against Francisco Rodriguez, who struck out Alex Gonzalez on a full-count fastball. Laynce Nix flied out to the warning track in center field.
Carlos Delgado homered and drove in four runs for the Mets.
Phillies 12, Braves 11
PHILADELPHIA ó Four Phillies walked with the bases loaded during an eight-run rally in the seventh inning. Raul Ibanez hit a two-run homer, helping the Phillies overcome a 10-3 deficit and avoid a sweep on the day they received their World Series rings.
Brian McCann and Jordan Schafer hit two-run homers for the Braves, and Javier Vazquez left with a seven-run lead after pitching six effective innings in his first start with his new team. Blaine Boyer (0-1) issued two of the bases-loaded walks in the seventh.

HOUSTON ó Aramis Ramirez and Mike Fontenot had four RBIs apiece. Kosuke Fukudome had four hits and scored a career-high four runs.

Albert Pujols set a record for a Cardinals first baseman with seven assists ó the most in the majors by a first baseman since the Pirates’ Bob Robertson had eight in 1971.

MIAMI ó Dan Uggla hit a tiebreaking three-run double, and Chris Volstad was almost flawless after a shaky first inning.

Orioles 7, Yankees 5
BALTIMORE ó Koji Uehara allowed one run over five innings in his major league debut, and Nick Markakis went 3-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs.
Uehara, the first Japanese-born pitcher in Orioles history, gave up five hits and a walk before leaving with a 7-1 lead.
Making his first start since last June after missing the latter half of the season with a foot injury, Chien-Ming Wang (0-1) yielded seven runs and nine hits in 32/3 innings.
A two-run homer by Derek Jeter got New York to 7-4 in the ninth, and Mark Teixeira greeted George Sherrill with an RBI double. Sherrill then retired Hideki Matsui on a popup.

BOSTON ó Scott Kazmir pitched six solid innings, and Carlos Pena hit a two-run homer after striking out in his first five at-bats this season.
Jon Lester, who lost Game 7 of the ALCS to Tampa, had won 16 straight regular-season decisions at Fenway.
