The ACC roundup …
GREENSBOROó Another ACC tournament was about to end in disappointingly early fashion for Kristi Toliver. Then the Maryland star did what she does best: Hit the big shots when the Terrapins needed them most.
Toliver scored 10 of her 15 points in the second half, and No. 4 Maryland rallied from 12 points down to beat Wake Forest 72-70 on Friday in the ACC quarterfinals.
League rookie of the year Lynetta Kizer had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the top-seeded Terrapins (26-4), the regular-season co-champs who took a successful first step toward claiming the conference title that has eluded Toliver and Marissa Coleman during their first three seasons.
Alex Tchangoue and Corinne Groves each scored 16 points for Wake Forest (19-11), which appeared headed for the biggest victory in school history midway through the second half before going cold.
No. 8 Duke 76, No. 24 Virginia 53
Abby Waner scored 16 points to help No. 8 Duke beat No. 24 Virginia 76-53.
Joy Cheek added 10 of her 12 points after halftime for the third-seeded Blue Devils (25-4), who won their opener for the 15th straight year.
The Blue Devils got off to a dominating start, building a 25-point first-half lead and cruising the rest of the way for their 16th straight win against the Cavaliers (23-9).
No. 12 Florida State 83, Boston College 71
Tanae Davis-Cain and Mara Freshour scored 20 points each to lead No. 12 Florida State past Boston College 83-71 in the quarterfinals.
Jacinta Monroe, Courtney Ward and Cierra Bravard added 10 points each for the second-seeded Seminoles (25-6), who advance to the ACC tournament semifinals for just the second time in school history, and the first since 2001.
