ATLANTA ó Rich Peverley scored two of Atlanta’s four third-period goals, and Ilya Kovalchuk had two goals and three assists in the Thrashers’ 5-3 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night.
Carolina, which had won seven of nine, remained tied with Buffalo for the eighth place in the Eastern Conference.
The Thrashers, who have an NHL-low 24 points at home, won at Philips Arena for just the sixth time in 22 games.
Kari Lehtonen made 32 saves to improve to 13-19-3.
Tuomo Ruutu and Sergei Samsonov each scored in the first to put Carolina ahead 2-0, and Anton Babchuk added a power-play goal early in the third.
Devils 7, Panthers 2
NEWARK, N.J. ó Zach Parise had two goals and an assist and the New Jersey Devils made life easy for Martin Brodeur in his second game back from elbow surgery, routing the Florida Panthers 7-2.
Brodeur, who shut out Colorado on Thursday night in his return from a 50-game layoff, made 15 saves for his 546th career victory ó five short of tying Patrick Roy’s NHL record.
Rangers 6, Avalanche 1
NEW YORK ó Ryan Callahan and Nikolai Zherdev scored in the first 68 seconds, and the Rangers busted out of their offensive doldrums to give coach John Tortorella his first win with New York.
Petr Prucha and Scott Gomez also scored in New York’s second four-goal first period, and Chris Drury and Markus Naslund added goals. Henrik Lundqvist made 23 saves, allowing only Ryan Smyth’s goal.
Capitals 4, Bruins 3, OT
BOSTON ó Alexander Semin scored on a slap shot from just inside the red line 22 seconds into overtime to lift Washington past Boston in a matchup of the top teams in the Eastern Conference.
Alex Ovechkin scored his NHL-leading 45th goal for the Capitals, eight points behind first-place Boston. Tomas Fleischmann and Nicklas Backstrom added goals, and Jose Theodore made 34 saves.
Islanders 2, Sabres 0
UNIONDALE, N.Y. ó Yann Danis made 31 saves for his second straight shutout at home, and Sean Bergenheim scored twice for New York.
The Sabres remained tied with Carolina for eighth place in the Eastern Conference.Ducks 4, Stars 3
DALLAS ó Corey Perry scored the tying goal in the third period, Teemu Selanne added the winner 1:31 later and Anaheim handed Dallas its fourth straight home loss.
Maple Leafs 4, Senators 3, OT
OTTAWA ó Pavel Kubina scored his second of the game 33 seconds into overtime, and Curtis Joseph made 29 saves for Toronto for his second win of the season.

MONTREAL ó Andrei Markov and Saku Koivu each had a goal and an assist in Montreal’s three-goal first period.
