TOWSON, Md. ó Former West Rowan star Junior Hairston did all he could but it wasn’t enough as Towson became Drexel’s seventh straight victim in a 60-53 loss.
Hairston had 18 points and 13 rebounds for Towson (8-15, 3-8), which shot only 33.9 percent from the field (19 of 56) and went 1-for-10 from 3-point range. He also led the team with three assists.
Davidson 55, Samford 52
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ó Stephen Curry scored 20 points to lead Davidson to a 55-52 victory over Samford.
Curry shot 6-for-20 from the field, including only 2-for-11 from 3-point range. But he shot 6-for-6 from the free-throw line and added four assists.
Andrew Lovedale chipped in with 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Wildcats (18-3, 11-0 Southern Conference).
Charlotte 70, Winthrop 53
CHARLOTTE ó Ian Andersen scored 19 and LaMont Mack added 18 to lead Charlotte to a 70-53 victory against Winthrop.
DiJuan Harris added 14 points and 10 assists for Charlotte (7-13), which had lost seven of eight coming into the game.
The Eagles (6-14), who opened the season 1-11, had won four of five before the loss. Reggie Middleton added 10 for Winthrop.
Appalachian St. 77, Furman 75
BOONE ó Donald Sims hit two free throws with 8 seconds left to lift Appalachian State to a 77-75 win over Furman on Saturday.
Sims scored 20 points for the Mountaineers (8-11, 5-6 Southern Conference). Isaac Butts had 16 points and grabbed 16 rebounds.
Elon 59, College of Charleston 53
CHARLESTON, S.C. ó Ola Atoyebi scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to help Elon hold off a College of Charleston late rally in a 59-53 win on Saturday.Brett James had 15 points, five rebounds and two blocks for the Phoenix (6-13, 3-8 Southern Conference), who jumped out to a 26-2 lead in the first half before taking a 20-point advantage into halftime.
The Citadel 66, UNC-G 60
CHARLESTON, S.C. ó Zach Urbanus scored 20 points and The Citadel held North Carolina-Greensboro scoreless for the final 3:52, going on a 10-0 run to seal a 66-60 win.
With the score tied at 54-54, UNC-Greensboro’s Mikko Koivisto hit three free throws with 4:31 left and nailed a 3-pointer just 39 seconds later to put his squad ahead 60-56. Those would be UNC-Greensboro’s last points.
W. Carolina 77, Wofford 65
CULLOWHEE ó Brandon Giles scored 16 points to lead Western Carolina to a 77-65 win over Wofford.
Harouna Mutombo added 14 for the Catamounts (11-9, 6-4 Southern Conference), while Jake Robinson chipped in with 12.
Howard 77, N.C. A&T 74, OT
WASHINGTON ó Paul Kirkpatrick hit Howard’s only two overtime field goals and gave the Bison the lead for good with a late slam dunk in a 77-74 victory over North Carolina A&T.
WSSU 80, Florida A&M 66
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ó Brian Fisher scored 16 points to lead Winston-Salem State to an 80-66 win over Florida A&M. Jamal Durham added 15 points for the Rams (5-14), while Isiah Tucker chipped in with 12.
Liberty 78, UNC-Asheville 66
LYNCHBURG, Va. ó Seth Curry scored 17 points and Liberty withstood a late North Carolina-Asheville rally to win 78-66.
The Flames (16-7, 7-4 Big South Conference) were up 59-44 with 9:31 left when the Bulldogs used a 17-4 run to pull within 63-61 with 3:50 remaining.
