College basketball: Fields scored 25 in Wolfpack loss

RALEIGH ó Shayla Fields scored a game-high 25 points to lead N.C. State in a 64-59 loss to Florida State.
Fields, a former Salisbury High star, went 10-for-20 from the field in 40 minutes. She had five assists, four rebounds and two steals.
Nikitta Gartrell and Sharnise Beal shot a combined 2-for-26 in the ACC home opener for the Wolfpack (8-9, 0-2).The Seminoles led 58-41 before N.C. State connected on five 3-pointers in the final 3:33. Fields made two of them.
Maryland 65, Clemson 56
CLEMSON, S.C. ó Marissa Coleman had 19 points and 12th-ranked Maryland held off a late rally to win its eighth straight over Clemson.
The Terps (13-3, 2-1) avoided dropping two of their first three ACC games for the first time since Brenda Frase’s debut season in 2002-03.
Clemson (10-7, 1-3) trailed 51-47 following Lele Hardy’s 3-pointer with 2:48 left.
Coach Cristy McKinney’s club will carry a three-game ACC losing streak into Wake Forest on Sunday.

COLUMBUS, Ohio ó Ashley Ellis-Milan made two tiebreaking free throws with 17.3 seconds left in Minnesota’s first win on No. 15 Ohio State’s home court.
Florida 77, So. Carolina 63
COLUMBIA, S.C. ó Sha Brooks had 25 points and Marshae Dotson went 8-for-8 from the field for 19 points to lead No. 19 Florida (16-2, 2-1) past South Carolina.
