Rowan County fishermen Wayne “Buggs” Lipe, Rusty Lipe and Josh Johnson went on a successful trip recently with Capt. Greg Voliva of Four Seasons Guide Service out of Oriental.
Citation red drum were the big catches. Wayne Lipe said they were catching plenty of drum longer than 45 inches, which were catch-and-release only. Regulations allow fishermen to keep drum only between 18 and 27 inches.
He said they were able to keep plenty of trout, flounder and shrimp they caught.

Jane Barlow caught a black drum that weighed between 4 and 5 pounds during a recent fishing trip to Hatteras with her husband, Dean, and a group of others.
She caught the drum in the surf. “It was mighty fine eating,” she reports.
Barlow didn’t have much success with flounder, but got a lot of whitings and some blues. “We did go flounder gigging, but only saw one in the sand and it was not large enough to gig,” she said.
