BOONVILLE ó For the second straight game, West Davidson had a chance to win late, deep in its opponent’s territory.
For the second straight game, the Green Dragons failed.
A pass into the end zone with 1.6 seconds left fell incomplete, and Starmount held on for a 28-24 win.
William Rankin rushed 11 times for 128 yards and Alex Grubb added 78 yards. Grubb scored with under a minute left on a two-yard run and West recovered the onsides kick, but couldn’t get the winning score.
The Green Dragons dominated offensively with 361 yards and 19 first downs.
West Davidson (1-1) is off next week.
