Notes from the Farmer’s Market

– Several vendors now have fresh figs.
– Green beans are plentiful, as are tomatoes, cucumbers and bell peppers. Potatoes will gradually be available in greater amounts.
– This is a good time to buy local cantaloupe.
– Some vendors produce everything they sell. But you may notice that some also have produce from other sources. How can you tell what’s what? David Correll, president of the Farmers’ Market Association, says that to participate in the Salisbury Farmers’ Market, vendors must produce at least 50 percent of the value of what they sell on a market day. And they must label other produce indicating its origin.
The market, at the corner of South Main and Bank streets, is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday and Saturday.
