Local golf: Holder leads amateur qualifying

A former champion grabbed the lead on the first day of qualifying Friday for the 30th annual Horace Billings Rowan Amateur Golf Tournament at Corbin Hills Club.
Dusty Holder, the 1999 champion, posted a one-under 71 to take the lead. He had three birdies during his round.
One stroke back with a 72 was David Boger.
Ronnie Eidson, who won the recent Rowan Masters tourney at Warrior, gabbed third with a 73.
Mallory McDaniel, two-time winner of the Rowan Amateur, and Michael Dorsett followed with 74s.
The second round of qualifying wlll be held today.
The final round Sunday will set the field, which will be made up of 31 low qualifiers and the defending champion Keith Dorsett.
The tournament will be played July 18-20 at Corbin Hills.
