Salisbury Police have charged a 23-year-old mother of three young children with the strangulation murder of a prominent local dentist.
A preliminary autopsy indicates Dr. David Boyd, 47, died by strangulation, Police Chief Mark Wilhelm said Friday afternoon.
Officers charged Candice Jo Drye, of Mocksville, Thursday night.
Drye family members and friends say she was addicted to hydrocodone, and when she needed more, she went to Boyd for another prescription.
Family members said Friday that Drye went to the dentist’s office Wednesday evening and the dentist’s home later Wednesday night, hours before a co-worker found Boyd’s body.
And about 11 p.m., the dentist called members of Drye’s family, telling them she was drunk at his home and asking them to pick her up.
