Adam Benson, 13, of Darrell Whitley Lane bagged his first turkey while hunting with his father, Scotty Benson, in April.
The turkey weighed 23 pounds. Adam was hunting in the Shue Road area of Rowan County.

Salisbury’s Jack Scott, a manager at the Kannapolis Food Lion, has organized a bass fishing tournament to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network on Saturday at High Rock Lake.
More than 60 sponsors have donated $1,700 so far.
The fee is $80 per team with $20 from each entry going to the Children’s Miracle Network. Big fish pot costs an optional $10 per team.
A free cookout for all entrants will be held after the tournament.

Chris Fraley and Dennis Leonard caught a Badin Lake record of 139.14 pounds for five catfish caught at the NCCATS Badin Lake Tourney.
The old record from May of 2001 was held by NCCATS founders Tracy Setzer and Omar Edwards at 129.2 pounds.
Fraley and Leonard of Charlotte won $1,000. They also won $240 for the big fish of the tournament, a 34-pound flathead.

Dean Collins and Ray Furr of Lexington caught 14.88 pounds and won $1,038 in the N.C. Piedmont Fishers of Men fourth tournament of the season on May 17 at High Rock Lake.
Second place went to Bill Talley and Lee Adams, who also claimed the big fish title with a 4.78 pounder .
