NEW YORK ó Mike Mussina survived five shaky innings before turning it over to Joba Chamberlain and New York’s reshaped bullpen, and the Yankees pummeled the Seattle Mariners 12-6 on Saturday for their first four-game winning streak of the season.
Jason Giambi hit a three-run homer and Bobby Abreu added a two-run shot for the Yankees, who have outscored Baltimore and Seattle 35-9 during the winning streak. Abreu finished with four RBIs, and Robinson Cano went 4-for-4 and matched a career-high with three doubles as the Yankees improved to 5-0 against the Mariners this season.
Carlos Silva (3-4), who once pitched in Kannapolis for the Piedmont Boll Weevils, gave up seven runs and 11 hits in six innings.
Blue Jays 6, Royals 0
TORONTO ó Jesse Litsch pitched a seven-hitter for his first career complete game, Brad Wilkerson hit a grand slam and the Blue Jays extended the Royals’ losing streak to six.
Kansas City was shut out for the sixth time this season.
Angels 2, White Sox 0
CHICAGO ó Jered Weaver pitched three-hit ball over eight innings and Vladimir Guerrero hit a go-ahead home run in the sixth to lead the Angels over the White Sox.
Weaver (4-5) struck out six, walked two and improved to 3-0 with an 0.34 ERA in four career starts against the White Sox.
Rays 11, Orioles 4
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. ó Evan Longoria homered twice and had six RBIs to lead the Rays past the Orioles.
It was Longoria’s first career multihomer game. The rookie hit a three-run shot during a four-run first, and had a two-run drive in a five-run second. He also hit a fourth-inning sacrifice fly.
Indians 5, Rangers 2
CLEVELAND ó Cliff Lee bounced back from his only poor outing this season and Ben Francisco hit a three-run homer to help Cleveland snap its seven-game losing streak with a win over Texas.
Lee (7-1), was not as sharp as he when he compiled an 0.67 ERA and 6-0 record in his first seven starts.
Tigers 19, Twins 3
DETROIT ó Magglio Ordonez homered twice and drove in six runs to help the Tigers rout the Twins.
The six RBIs matched his career high.
