Salisbury Symphony announces new season

The Salisbury Symphony asks you to “Save the Date(s)” for its 2008-2009 season. Maestro David Hagy promises another season of surprises, inspiring and thought-provoking music, and exciting soloists.
The 42nd season begins as the Salisbury-Rowan Symphony Society hosts the North Carolina Symphony on Saturday, Oct. 11. Conductor William Henry Curry will conduct music of Tchaikovsky and de Falla. Guitar soloist Scott Tennant will perform the well-known “Concierto de Aranjuez” by Joaquin Rodrigo.
On Jan. 24, 2009, the Salisbury Symphony performs music by Copland, Ives, and the Elgar Cello Concerto featuring the symphony’s principal cellist Anne Sellitti.
On Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009, SSO presents its Family Concert with two young musicians: Richard He on piano and Dustin Wilkes-Kim on violin. Also, the All-County Fifth Grade Honors Chorus will perform, and the audience will be invited to wrap their tongues around “Peter Piper’s Practical Principles of Plain and Perfect Pronunciation!” with help from middle-school children.
On March 21, 2009, Louis Goldstein, guest pianist, will play Mozart’s Piano Concerto in D Minor. The concert will also feature music by Stravinsky and Rimsky-Korsakov “Scheherazade.”
Finally, on May 2, 2009, (Kentucky Derby Day) the symphony invites you to “bet” on great music. The Pops concert will feature a Jazz Trio of Federico Pivetta, Matt Kendrick, and Jakubu Griffin and a musical piece called “Seattle Slew.”
Back by popular demandn and in addition to the symphony’s season concerts ó the Salisbury Symphony and Piedmont Dance Theatre will collaborate to offer two performances of “The Nutcracker” on Sunday, Dec. 21. Because of the full houses last year, reserved seating will be offered this holiday season. Tickets go on sale to the public July 7. Season ticket holders may order tickets at any time.
Bill and Nancy Stanback and Caniche are sponsors for this exciting production, while the Salisbury Post will be the media sponsor.
