Lee Grant Smith

MOCKSVILLE – Lee Grant Smith, 87, of Mocksville, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, at Davis Regional Medical Center in Statesville.

Mr. Smith was born Dec. 6, 1919, in Davie County to the late Enoch Washington and Mary Starr Smith. He had worked at C.J. Angell’s Jewelry for many years, Fritts Motor Company in Winston-Salem and retired, at age 74, from Ingersoll-Rand after 20 years of service.

He attended Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church in his younger days. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Panama during World War II.

He was always willing to help someone in need, enjoyed gardening and had a love for all kinds of animals.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, to whom he was wed on Feb. 17, 1944, Orpha Angell Smith, on May 4, 2001; and brothers Clarence “Bud” Smith and George E. Smith.

Mr. Smith is survived by daughters Rosalee (Rube) Fesperman of Salisbury and Kathy (Larry) Harpe of Mocksville; grandchildren David Fesperman, Holly (Todd) Earnhardt, Lee (Shelia) Fesperman and Paul Harpe; great-grandchildren Davey, Lauren and Matthew Fesperman and Jacob and Caleb Earnhardt; step-great-grandchildren Greg and Cody Hall; and sisters Eva Mae Troutman of Franklinton, Jettie Carter and Dorothy Green, both of Mocksville.

Service: A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday at Eaton Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Shane Young officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Cemetery.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Sunday at Eaton Funeral Home.
