Alma Irene Elium Digh

SALISBURY – Alma Irene Elium Digh, 89, formerly of Salisbury, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007, at the home of her daughter in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Born June 8, 1917, in Rowan County, Mrs. Digh was the daughter of the late Walter T. and Mary Ida Miller Elium. She was a graduate of Granite Quarry High School and attended Mars Hill College.

Mrs. Digh was a homemaker and supported her husband in the many churches where he served as minister. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Salisbury, the Dorcus Sunday School Class, the Women’s Mission Union and a former member of the choir. She was also a member of the Salisbury Singing Seniors.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. David W. Digh, in 1984.

Survivors include daughter June Vaughan and husband A. Grady of Kalamazoo, Mich.; stepdaughter Evelyn Digh Dry and husband John of Salisbury; stepbrother Donald Ray Digh of Shelby; granddaughter Jennifer Vaughan Katsacos of St. Augustine, Fla.; and step-grandchildren Nancy Alexander and Judy Kepley of Salisbury, Sharon Gaggar of Spartanburg, S.C., Rhonda Digh of Shelby and Carol Grogen of Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Saturday at Summersett Funeral Home.

Service: Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Summersett Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Dr. C. Kenneth Lance, minister of First Baptist Church, and the Rev. Tom Roberts officiating. Interment will follow at Rowan Memorial Park.
