Preston Q. Deal

Preston Quincy Deal, 82, 2001 Fairfax St., died Saturday (Jan. 6, 2007) at Transitional Health Services.

Born March 8, 1924, in Rowan County, Mr. Deal was a son of the late Walter Monroe and Cora Bostian Deal.

He attended Rowan County Schools and was a lifelong member of Mount Zion United Church of Christ, where he was an active Golden Ager and member of the Men’s Bible Class and served on the Consistory. He enjoyed dancing and was a member of the Swinging Seniors.

He served as staff sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII in the China-Burma-India Theater and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8989 and Disabled American Veterans Post 51.

He was formerly employed in the Shipping Department of Fieldcrest Cannon.

His wife, Mildred Belk Deal, died in 2000.

Survivors include son Dennis Russell Deal, Charlotte; sister Sadie Cress, Salisbury; two grandchildren; and loving companion Betty Hill, Kannapolis.

A service was held Tuesday (Jan. 9, 2007) at Mount Zion United Church of Christ, conducted by the Rev. William Campbell. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home was in charge.
