Walter A. Sutton

SALISBURY – Walter Alexander Sutton, 69, of Salisbury, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006 at his home.

He was born March 4, 1937 in Rowan County to the late Alex and Julia Webb Sutton. Mr. Sutton was educated in Rowan County schools and was a graduate of Winston Salem Barber School. Mr. Sutton became a Master Barber and owned and operated Rowan Mills Barber Shop for many years. He was a charter member of Neel Rd. Baptist Church, a former Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, and a member of numerous committees for the church. He was also a member of the Fulton Masonic Lodge.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by brother Johnnie Sutton and Harold Sutton.

He is survived by his wife, Devona Miller Sutton; son, Walter Franklin Sutton and wife Shelayne of Chapel Hill; brothers, Edgar Sutton of Charleston, S.C., and Donald Sutton of China Grove; sisters Shirley S. Mull of Chapel Hill, and Judith Sutton of Charlotte; grandchildren, Drew, Michelle, Natalie, Grant, and Kent Sutton.

Visitation: 1-2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Summersett Funeral Home.

Service: Will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Summersett Memorial Chapel conducted by Rev. Jerry P. Wilkes. Burial will follow at Rowan Memorial Park. Following the graveside the family invites all to attend a meal and reception at the Neel Road Baptist Church Fellowship Hut.
