CHARLESTON, S.C. — D.J. Thompson scored 19 points and Demetrius Scott added 16 as Appalachian State defeated the College of Charleston,
68-57, in the Southern Conference opener for both schools Saturday.
The Mountaineers (5-2, 1-0 SoCon) were down by three early in the game when they went on a 20-2 run to take a 22-7 lead at 11:12 left in the half. Appalachian State led 38-24 halftime lead.
Nathan Cranford and Jeremy Clayton added 10 points each for ASU.
Indiana 74, Charlotte 57
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — A.J. Ratliff scored 18 points as Indiana (4-2) overcame a sluggish start to beat Charlotte.
DeAngelo Alexander had 23 points to lead the 49ers (2-4).
Winthrop 72, Northern Illinois 62
DEKALB, Ill. — Torrell Martin scored 22 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds to lead Winthrop to a 72-62 win.
Taj McCullough added 19 points and six rebounds for Winthrop (6-2).
S.C. St. 77, North Carolina A & amp;T 67
ORANGEBURG, S.C. — Brian Mason recorded a double-double, 13 points and 11 rebounds, to help lead S.C. State.
Georgia Southern 59, WSSU 49
WINSTON-SALEM– Donte Gennie scored 15 points and Louis Graham added 14 to help Georgia Southern beat Winston-Salem State (1-10).
Liberty 64, East Carolina 56
LYNCHBURG, Va. — Alex McLean scored 17 points, including 13 in the second half, to give Liberty a 64-56 come-from-behind win.
UNC Asheville 75, Furman 67
GREENVILLE, S.C. — Vincent James scored a game-high 22 points, including the go-ahead basket with 5:35 left, to lead UNC Asheville to a 75-67 win over Furman. Bryan Smithson added 13 points, 11 in the second half, for the Bulldogs (3-4).
Northeastern 58, N.C.-Wilmington 51
BOSTON — Bennet Davis had 12 points, eight rebounds and seven blocks to lead Northeastern to a 58-51 win over UNC Wilmington in the Colonial Athletic Association opener for both teams.
Xavier 95, Western Carolina 61
CINCINNATI — Justin Doellman scored a season-high 18 points to lead Xavier to a 95-61 win over Western Carolina, ending the Catamounts’ three-game winning streak.

SALEM, W.Va. — Sami Wylie made an NCAA record 21 3-pointers and finished with 69 points to help Lincoln University set a Division III scoring record in a 201-78 victory over Ohio State-Marion on Saturday.
Lincoln’s total topped the Division III mark set in January 2005 by the University of Redlands, which scored 172 points against La Sierra College.
