CONCORD — The Centralina Workforce Development Board has opened a new Career Center in Concord.
The Cabarrus County NCWORKS Career Center has met the N.C. Commission on Workforce Development’s criteria. The center, located at 2275 Kannapolis Highway in Concord, has been awarded certification for a period of two years, beginning in May 2014 and expiring in May 2016.
The certification application was prepared by the team at the Career Center, led by Manager Carolyn Mays.
“The leadership team at the Career Center began discussing our strategies and processes in order to complete the certification application,” Mays said. “While developing new policies and procedures, we realized our products to the community needed to match them.
“So we created a new product box of services that now offers more in-demand workshops that can assist in the problems with skill gaps, as well as new service techniques for our business customers and our job seekers.”
Some of the customized services include workshops for job seekers and employers, as well as career counseling and assistance using NCWorks Online.
Community partners include Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, Vocational Rehabilitation and Goodwill.
“We are more than glad to assist employers with their job order requirements, as well as helping job seekers get matched with careers that compliment their talent and skills,” Mays said.
The Centralina Workforce Development Board and the N.C. Department of Commerce Division of Workforce Solutions are realigning services to better meet the needs of North Carolina career seekers and employers.
The Cabarrus Center is the first center certified through the Centralina Workforce Development Board and the eighth certified through the North Carolina Workforce System.
The state will recognize the center on Aug. 20 in Raleigh at the meeting of the Commission of Workforce Development. Mays, David Hollars, executive director of the Centralina Workforce Development Board and Bob Stowe, chairman of the Centralina Workforce Development Board, will accept the certification.
NCWorks Online is a free service that provides several benefits to job seekers and employers. Job seekers can search job posts pulled from thousands of websites and receive alerts through email and text message. Employers can post jobs to find the talent they need, as well as take advantage of real-time labor market information that will assist them in making competitive offers to recruit talented workers.
