SALISBURY — Authorities said a woman pulled a knife on a Dollar General clerk Tuesday afternoon.
The robber tried to purchase an item from the Statesville Avenue store about 4:30 p..m, police said, but when the cashier closed the register drawer, the thief questioned the clerk and pulled a knife out.
“Why did you close the drawer,” the woman asked, according to a police report.
When the cashier backed away, officers said, the woman tried to pry the register open. Police said she didn’t take any money and left on foot shortly after.
A clerk followed the woman a short distance, but when the robber noticed she turned around and swung the knife “in a slashing motion,” the report said.
Witnesses told police the woman was black, in her mid- to late-30s and was seen getting into a silver SUV.
An incident report also listed the woman as wearing a dark colored winter hat, a white zip-up hooded sweatshirt, dark pants and a blue shirt with white writing.
Police said they are investigating the robbery and ask anyone with information to call the Salisbury Police Department at 704-638-5333 or Rowan-Salisbury Crime Stoppers at 866-639-5246.
