A former employee of a local apartment complex was charged Sunday with cashing checks from the complex and signing the manager’s name.

Salisbury Police charged Amanda Marie Short, 27, of the 300 block of Ashbrook Road, Salisbury, with felony embezzlement.

Authorities say she reported that tenants at Rolling Hills Townhomes had paid rent when they had not. She worked at the property for three months and was terminated. When the property manager checked the finances they noticed money was missing from the business account. Investigators said she’d written checks to herself, cashed them and signed the manager’s name.

Short wrote and cashed checks on Oct. 1 totaling $515.50, a report said.

Short was convicted in June 2012 with larceny by employee and remains on probation. She has since been released under a $1,000 secured bond.
