Crime blotter: Woman reports purse-snatching outside store

A woman told police she was the victim of a purse-snatching while shopping at Big Lots.

Dolores Burback, 69, told police that she was walking to her car, purchases in tow, in the Big Lots parking lot Sunday morning when a man ran up to her and allegedly grabbed at her purse. She told police that when he pulled on her purse she fell to the ground, hitting her head.

According to the report, the man ran through the Kmart parking lot and went behind the building, heading towards Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue.

The purse-snatcher is described as an African-American male with shoulder-length dreadlocks. He was seen wearing a black jacket with a red design or lettering on it.

  • A man reported Friday that he was threatened and hit in the stomach behind Walmart.
  • Police responded to reports of shots fired at the 500 block of Garner Drive. A man reported hearing two shots and said that a stray bullet hit a residence nearby, damaging the siding. Police spokeswoman Shelia Lingle says the bullet is believed to be from hunters or a target shooter.
  • A man reported an assault Friday at the 500 block of Gold Hill Drive.
  • Police seized marijuana Friday at the intersection of East Innes Street and South Main Street.
  • Police seized black colored metallic knuckles that were concealed in a purse during a traffic stop Friday at the intersection of East Innes Street and North Shaver Street.
  • Police seized marijuana after a traffic stop Saturday at the intersection of North Long Street and East Council Street.
  • Mcdonald’s on East Innes street reported Saturday that an employee allegedly embezzled money. According to police, an unnamed employee allegedly took $60 and $80 on separate occasions. An investigation is ongoing.
  • Family Dollar on West Jake Alexander Boulevard reported a counterfeit bill Saturday.
  • Police seized heroin or opium derivatives while investigating a suspicious vehicle at the 700 block of Maple Avenue Saturday.
  • A woman reported an assault Saturday at the 1400 block of Sussex Lane.
  • A woman reported an alleged kidnapping and assault Sunday at the 400 block of North Ellis Street.
  • A man at the 1000 block of Klumac Road reported Sunday that medication was stolen from the building.
  • A larceny was reported at Woodleaf Lanes Sunday.
  • Walmart reported a fraudulent return of merchandise Sunday.
  • A sex offense molestation was reported Sunday at the 1900 block of South Jake Alexander Boulevard.
  • Tyneshia Simone Rhodes, 19, was charged Friday with vandalism to real property and willful and wanton injury.
  • Tonya Swinson Holleman, 53, was charged Friday at the 500 block of Gold Hill Drive with assault and battery or affray.
  • Matthew Phillip Peckinpaugh, 24 was charged Friday at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center with resist, delay or obstructing a public officer.
  • Kennew Dominique Reid, 24, was charged Saturday with simple possession of a schedule II, III, IV, V or VI controlled substance at the intersection of Old Concord Road and South Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue.

In Rowan County Sheriff’s Office reports:

  • A man at the 14600 block of Old Beatty Ford Road, Gold Hill reported Thursday that his credit card information was used to make unapproved purchases.
  • A man reported a burglary Thursday at the 100 block of McNair Circle.
  • Roger Earl Williams, 32, was charged Thursday at the 3600 block of River Road, Richfield with making a false report to a police radio broadcasting station.
  • Daniel Joseph Walters, 40, was charged Thursday at the 400 block of Morrow Road, China Grove with injury to real property.
  • Natosha Jonese Turner, 35, was charged Thursday at the intersection of Statesville Boulevard and N.C. 801 Highway, Cleveland with no financial responsibility.
