Rowan County woman gives game winnings to Christmas Happiness Fund

Becky Morris and about 16 others gather regularly for a game of LCR, a dice game that has players pass chips or cash to the left, right or center for a chance to win the pot of money in the middle.
After Morris won a recent game, she vowed to give half her winnings to the Christmas Happiness Fund.
Morris was true to her word and made a donation on Friday. She and other friends decided to give in honor of longtime friend Marla Black.
Black has for years hosted holiday parties and game night.
Black takes care of an ailing mother, despite her own health problems, Morris said.
“To know her is to love her,” Morris said of her friend.
Morris said when she played the most recent LCR, it was for the first time. She had no clue what she was doing and yet she won.
“It’s a hilarious game,” she said.
Everyone brings $3 to play the game and once the die is rolled the player passes $1 to the left, right or center.
Morris, a retired music teacher, has been giving to the fund for over a decade and tries to give each year.
“I know how important it is to help these kids. I want to do a little bit to help,” she said.
Donations to the Christmas Happiness Fund come from people in the community who earmark their gift in memory or honor of someone. Donations are brought to the Salisbury Post during business hours. The money is then given to the Salvation Army of Rowan County to distribute to eligible families.
