Faith briefs: First Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis celebrates 100 years

KANNAPOLIS ó First Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis will celebrate its 100th anniversary this Sunday.
The church invites all former members and children of the church as well as members of the community to join their celebration.
A coffee and juice fellowship will begin at 10 a.m. in the fellowship hall. A bagpiper will summon all to the sanctuary for the Centennial Worship Service at 10:55 a.m. The music symbolizes the Scotch-Irish heritage of the first Presbyterians in this region.
The service will be led by Pastor Joe Crawford, and Sons of the Church. The Rev. Eldon Wadsworth will preach.
Immediately following the service will be “Dinner on the Grounds.” The covered dish event will provide seating outside under a tent and inside the fellowship hall.

Liberty AME Zion
COOLEEMEE ó Liberty AME Zion Church. 271 Gladstone Road in Cooleemee, will have an appreciation service for their pastor, the Rev. Dr. Bertha Pittman today at 7 p.m. at the church.
Everyone is invited to attend.
Gospel rapper
Block Party Explosion starring gospel rapper Amazing Grace will take place 3-10 p.m. this Saturday, at St. Luke Baptist Church, 151 Hawkins Loop. There will be games, gospel music, food and more.

Love Christian Center
EAST SPENCER ó Love Christian Center’s youth department will be having its “Youth On Fire Conference 2009” June 26-28.
Friday at 7:30 p.m. Minister Vernon Williams of Roanoke, Va. will speak.
Saturday, at 5 p.m., Prophetess Miriam Parker Kellar, pastor of Remnant in Christ Outreach Worship Center in Salisbury, will speak.
Sunday, at 11 a.m. worship, Brother Jonathan Rhinehart of Yadkin Grove Missionary Baptist Church will speak.
The celebration will end at 5 p.m. with Bishop Lawrence Kerns of New Accord Ministries, Statesville, speaking for the evening.

United Ministerial
United Ministerial Alliance will hold its Third Sunday Evening Service this Sunday at 7 p.m.
The speaker will be the Dr. George Jackson, pastor of United Cornerstone Citadel of Faith, Thomasville. He will be accompanied by his choir and members.
It will be held at Mighty Miracle Temple Baptist Church, located at 117 Long Ferry Road, East Spencer.

Solid Rock Church of God will host a Pre-Teen/Teen Summit on Monday June 22.
The summit will begin at 8 a.m. with breakfast and conclude after lunch at approximately 1:30 pm.
Guest presenters are Minister Quinn C. Rodgers, youth minister at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Charlotte, and Tiffany L. Hampton J.D., a member of Victory Christian Center, Charlotte.
Admission is free and all are invited.

First Calvary VBS
First Calvary Baptist Church will hold vacation Bible school June 22-26 from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
The theme is “The Jesus Chronicles ó A Life-Changing Encounter.” Ages will range from 4-year-olds to adults and will include assemblies, classes, arts and crafts, games and a meal.
Pre-registration will be held at the church, 400 S. Long St., on Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon and Monday at 5 p.m.
Free transportation will be provided upon request Parents are asked to accompany children during registration and are encouraged to attend the sessions.

Oakdale Baptist
SPENCER ó On Saturday, June 27, Oakdale Baptist Church will hold its Health and Wellness Fair.
Oakdale will have booths set up that cover a variety of topics. There will be blood pressure and blood sugar screenings, body fat analysis tests, information on medical equipment, safety, relaxation, illness prevention, spiritual health, community home health services, medicare, healthy eating, and other services that are offered locally.
There will be door prizes, handouts, and refreshments, and games for kids.
Woodleaf UMC
WOODLEAF ó Woodleaf UMC will be holding a church- wide yard sale and pancake breakfast on June 27 from 7 a.m. to noon.
Proceeds will benefit the Health Ministries Program. This program supports the valuable services of a parish nurse to the Woodleaf community. Services are provided to the community at no charge.
The church is located on Potneck Road between Hwy 801 and Cool Springs Road (behind Woodleaf Elementary).
Mt. Moriah
LANDIS ó Mt. Moriah Evangelical Lutheran Church will hold its vacation Bible school June 21-26.
The theme is “Through Discovery Canyon” and will be discovering the “Wonders of the World”. Topics that will be covered include asking, rejoicing and praying .
There will be an introduction to the Bible school this Sunday at 9:15 a.m. During the week, classes will be from 5:45 -8:30 p.m. beginning with a light supper.
There are classes from pre-school through fifth grade that will feature stations for Bible, music stories, crafts and recreation.
Middle school and high school youth will go on a “Mystery Trip” each night that will relate to the theme of the day. During the week there will also be Bible study for adults.
A special project will raise funds for a Navaho mission school, and the public is welcome.

Luther’s Lutheran
Luther’s Lutheran will be holding a send-off lunch for their pastor, the Rev. Carol Yeager, who will be deploying to the Middle East on July 1.
The luncheon will take place on June 28, after morning worship.
Yeager serves as a chaplain for the U.S. Air Force Reserve and will be on active duty for six months, four of those spent overseas.
New Zion Baptist
New Zion Baptist Church, 2785 Dunn’s Mountain Road, will observe their annual Youth Revival June 25 and 26, beginning at 7 p.m. each night.
Guest speakers will be: Thursday-Minister Sherry Smith, associate minister of Shady grove Baptist Church, Mt.Ulla; Friday-Elder Cedric Johnson of Charlotte.
The host pastor is the Rev. Paul Jones Sr. The Rev. Patrick Jones is youth minister and Daphne Clinton is youth director.

John Wesley Camp
HIGHPOINT ó John Wesley Campmeeting will be held June 25 – July 5.
Speakers will be the Rev. Jerry McGee from Winston-Salem, and the Rev. Kenny Greenway from High Point.
McGee is involved in full-time evangelism and mission work and Greenway is the director of Greenway Ministries and preaches in churches and campmeetings.
McGee and Greenway will alternate preaching each day during the camp. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. each day.
Don Miller from Kernersville will serve as song evangelist and will play music at each service. Rachelle Denny be pianist.
The public is invited. The camp is located at Eastchester and Bridges Street in High Point.
